Well, as I predicted, it’s to the back of the bus again for us - #SupremeCourt just ruled that it’s perfectly legal to deny services to gay people because of the “religious beliefs” of bigots. And on the last day of #Pride month. Thanks to Trump, this kind of rolling backwards of civil rights will only continue for years to come. What a great country this is. Feel so privileged to be made a 2nd class citizen again.

@LizShayne I'll give a shot. One of the main things I learnt working as a hospital chaplain is always keeping in mind whose needs were being met and staying mindful to be sure that they were those of the patient and not my own. So easy to abuse positions of authority and responsibility and not even be aware of it! I found the book, "Power in the Helping Professions" to be very useful in that regard.
The 5th night. I remember my cousin, Luis de Carvajal, who with his mother and three sisters died at the stake in flames in Mexico City on Dec 8, 1596 after being discovered as secret Jews. Ironic that the flame that killed them is the same flame that now burns bright to remind us to be courageous and never give in to oppression in whatever form.
Tonight is the 5th night of #Hanukkah. Pls join me in recalling the 500 years of secrecy and denial forced on the #Anusim in order to survive and keep the flame of #Judaism alive, no matter how dim. From the prayers tonight: The spirit of those who were forced to convert, but practiced in secret; died because they were #Jews; or who were expelled from #Spain and #Portugal, remains alive in the bright lights of the Hanukkah candles - more than 500 years later.
