ESOFor the first time ever, astronomers have unveiled the shape of a star’s explosion at its earliest stage.
The feat was achieved by ESO's Very Large Telescope just a day after the detection of this supernova, as the blast was breaking through the star’s surface.
This brief initial phase wouldn’t have been observable a day later. This will help shed light on how massive stars go supernova.

@schwa Saw a great session at #kawaiicon on the weekend that pointed out that to date, all the factorisation papers have been physics experiments rather than tech demos (in that they all started from pre-chosen numbers). Worth watching when they get the recordings published.
@GossiTheDog I backed it on Kickstarter to relive my youth playing Elite on the C64. Lost all interest when they made it online multiplayer only, have played it maybe twice.
