Old infosec guy. Gamer when time allows. Dodgy drone pilot. Terrible coder. Average photographer. Keen motorcyclist.
Took some time off from the socials. What have I missed?

For the first time ever, astronomers have unveiled the shape of a star’s explosion at its earliest stage.

The feat was achieved by ESO's Very Large Telescope just a day after the detection of this supernova, as the blast was breaking through the star’s surface.

This brief initial phase wouldn’t have been observable a day later. This will help shed light on how massive stars go supernova.

Hi @gayint! Big favour to ask…

Partly because I need an awesome name for a group chat, but mostly because I’m jealous of SPICY O-RING, any chance you can assign a name for a bunch of infosec folks in Australia who at least once a week will mutter “I’d be rich if I was in the other side” but then go back to shitposting about dodgy vendors?

IT'S MY #BIRTHDAY CAN I GET SOME #BOOSTS

  🎉 🥳 🎈 🎁 🎊 🎂

#vantabirthday

I am begging you, if you are a restaurant, you need to have a web presence other than Facebook and Instagram. I don't have those, and therefore can't see anything about your business!

We'd very much like to talk to someone who uses something like Patreon subscriptions for working on 3d models for subscribers. We want to be able to support your workflow, and would love to learn from you about what you need.

Boost for reach, or intros to anyone that might be interested in talking would be much appreciated. ❤️

Microsoft to refund customers for 365 subscription price hike after ACCC action

Microsoft apologises to customers and says it will refund them, after the consumer watchdog alleged the tech giant misled about 2.7 million Australians over subscription costs so they would remain on more expensive plans.

ABC News

Hey folks, It's been a minute since Microsoft made me redundant in the middle of the year, and I'm finally feeling more settled after my move back to Australia.

I'm looking for work as as Senior Software Engineer anywhere in the security space, I have particular interest in Signals collection and processing, however I'm passionate about building tools and platforms for enabling researchers.

I've been involved the development and design of many of the tools and systems that powered RiskIQ before and after acquisition, I'm particularly proud of our port scanning system (https://internetscans.microsoft.com/) and the early iterations of our OSINT collection and publications (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/security/business/siem-and-xdr/microsoft-defender-threat-intelligence).

I'm also open to working in other industries.

Looking for full remote or hybrid roles preferably in Sydney or Melbourne.

Thanks in advance for any leads or assistance!

Microsoft’s Internet Wide Scanning

Damn. RIP the absolute titan of British acting that was Prunella Scales.

I wrote this Fawlty Towers short story a while back as a tribute to her performance in it.

Shared in her memory. https://authory.com/JohnBull/No-Pasaran-a26e385ea23a3460d906757b9f48bfe3d

@richardstocks another example of why we need stronger price gouging laws in Australia. The fluffing at the edges with supermarkets won't solve this kind of shit
