Writing is hard work. Sometimes we can focus for hours without feeling any strain. Sometimes we feel exhausted before completing the first paragraph, and we don’t know why. What can we do to get—and stay—in the flow?

Oliver Reichenstein, founder of iA and creator of iA Writer, iA Presenter, and the award-winning iA Notebook, is coming to beyond tellerrand Düsseldorf 2026. A designer who studied philosophy and has spent 25 years connecting thinking and making.
Back at my favorite topic: "We can fully attend to only one thing at a time. Multitasking is an illusion. Task switching is expensive. To write well, you need to protect your focus. You either write, structure, or format. Avoid doing everything at once. You’ll write better, and enjoy it more." I wrote this almost a year ago. Just posted my post about Microsoft Office and how obsolete it is, Siri hon the bus, and then I hear two women complaining about... Microsoft.

Was laughing tears writing the first few versions of this blog post. I toned it down a bit to make sure that one would understand that, in spite of all its very real absurdity, it in fact is a serious topic. I hope one can still feel how much I enjoyed writing it. It evolved out of the six posts I wrote on Markdown, last year. Still four to go.

This series of wallpapers has been an incredible amount of work. I thought that we could easily do one set per day. Such a rookie mistake. Definitely not going to happen next year. (Famous last words.)
Charts are coming to iA Presenter, soon. A big step... in fact, two big steps. We’re looking for more testers.
