I worry about the repercussions of AI replacing junior lawyers. Not just because of how it will affect them but because the business of law has always depended on being able to train young lawyers on-the-job.

A Tidal Wave of Disruption

In the rush to embed AI into their practice, most law firms have not realised how disruptive this could be to the way in which the business of law has traditionally operated. If we replace junior lawyers with AI that can do their work, how will we train the senior lawyers we need?

Privacy laws are designed to give individuals the agency to decide what can or cannot be done with their personal data. But that is not as useful as you might think when it comes to networked privacy.

Networked Privacy

The individual agency that privacy laws offer were designed for a time before networked privacy. As a result we cannot just rely on laws and regulations to protect our data but need to do considerable additional work to secure it.

I’ve waited for the data protection law for over a decade. Now that it’s here there is work to be done. My latest Ex Machina article.

The Business End of the DPDP Act

India's new data protection law is simple and principle based. But it will require companies big and small to make radical changes to the way they operate.

If we believe the future of money is digital we should be able to tokenise everything. All assets will have their own digital ledgers and by unifying them all we will be able to build a new framework for commerce.

The Unified Ledger

If we believe that the future of money will be completely digital it will be possible for us to tokenise everything. This means that we will be able to build a digital ledger for different assets and by unifying these ledgers build a new framework for commerce.

@nitin Farcaster FTW.

The existential angst that we feel when faced with a new diruptive technology is not new. Which is why the AI revolution that is upon us now need not be feared - but used as an opportunity to re-skill ourselves.

Existential Angst

Every time a new technology comes around it threatens the status quo. Incumbents protest against it worried about the effect that it will have on their profession and their livelihood. But most technological change creates new opportunities that require us to learn new skills. The current AI revolut

Last year I had the opportunity to speak to a hall filled with over 700 designers. Perhaps unsurprisingly I chose to speak about Privacy by Design.

@nitin Correct. I believe the technical measures are in place - this is a closed loop system and data is purged every 24 hours - but over arching legal restrictions will ensure that no one changes the current system to allow it to leak. Though the only people who can change it is MoCA that has a vanishingly slim reason to do so. Given that it can only be used for authentication.
