I care about good technology leadership, self-advocacy for experienced and underappreciated technologists, and sustainability in tech.

Show me your memes, your rants, your passion projects, and I will share mine as well.

I don't care what you call me, as long as you call me. ✌️

So many opinions on this (lol). All commentary on him as a person aside... If you can only meet 20% of your goals, you need either fewer goals or more realistic goals (or both). I think we all envision a future of autonomous flying cars, more convenient transit options, and yeah, space is cool. But you have to have solid infrastructure in order to grow. We're not born with the ability to fly.

Read some gd Isaac Asimov & learn how to put some real love into what you're doing. You'll see just how far we've come, and how much further we can go, if you stop to look back every once in a while. You don't need to get stuck on the past, but you have to learn sooner or later that having a good future takes work. You have to take part in building your own infrastructure, and you have to like it in order for it to work.

At the end of the day, the core of achievement is made and maintained by your human infrastructure, not the tools.

First day of [meteorological] summer and 90 degrees, speakers give up midway home. "Oh no. But I just had this thing serviced and it all checked out."

Well TIL with my little ODBII scanner that it was out of self-preservation. Heat was too high to sustain the speakers safely. This thing not only taught me more about my speakers in 5 minutes than enshittified searches did, but it also saved me probably $5k in getting an 11-point sound system replaced (for now). I knew I bought this little gadget for a reason.

So now I know to make sure it's cooler before I blast out The Prodigy at top volume. 😂

Florida sues OpenAI, Sam Altman after multiple ChatGPT-linked murders

Altman has an "utter disregard" for human lives, Florida AG says.

It's #pridemonth which means it's time for us all to support #trans rights AND trans wrongs!

It's always been funny to me how anyone #lgbt is expected to be virtuous, as though being queer is so "bad" on its own that we have to be "good" people to make up for it.

I'm starting off the month strong by being an evil bisexual & enabling policies everyone at work hates because I'm the guy who does his job and I love being that bitch.

Happy Pride, darlings!! 🏳️‍🌈

Re: handwriting from the article I just boosted...

I cannot advocate enough for maintaining handwriting as a skill.

As much as I love all of my clacky, mechanical keyboards I've built or bought, I do have to admit that there's something equally satisfying about not tethering myself to a device to put thoughts in order.

I'll also add that keeping up penpal relationships since I was a little kid has also been intensely rewarding. (But I do have a few letters I haven't sent yet, gotta get on that.)

Key takeaway: Write more, ya turkey! It's for your health! ❤️

This #pbs video about #AI data centers only scratches the surface of damage being done.

Power for 1 million homes. Emissions of 2 million cars. And that's only planned to grow for a single data center. AI is poorly regulated, leaving room for power-hungry "tech" giants to ruin the planet in the pursuit of profits. You will not have profits if you drive away or poison anyone who could use your products. Regulators and everyday consumers need to remember that tech giants do not have much incentive to care about human (or any) life when they see data as a better revenue generator.

In my experience, the essence of what people want out of AI is searching that isn't riddled with ads; an accessible, well-organized global library of knowledge. We could build that again without AI--we could build a better Internet together, by humans and for humans. We do not need AI data centers at such huge scales when they fail to solve so many of our real-world problems and often only make them worse.

Never stop learning, no matter how stupid something makes you feel at first. Watch a grown man make a malort martini and suffer. (Go make a margarita and drink it too eagerly for polite company.) Listen to a cartoon in the background as it teaches you about historical engineering and chemistry mistakes. Stare, brain broken over gorgeous CGI astrophysics graphics, as you try to comprehend stuff that wasn't taught in a way you understood in school 10, 20, however many years ago. Learn enough Latin to give your pets their own unique (and idiotic) genus and species designations.

This is my year. I don't know what for, probably never will. In #cybersecurity I feel like I always have to look toward the next thing before it gets here and it leaves so little time to look back. Trying to make sense of the world is overwhelming sometimes but I've heard that discomfort lets us grow, so I resign myself to it. At least I am not embarrassed to be intensely human, I suppose.

I joined the #fediverse here after watching the beauty of it over my best friend's shoulder for a while. I've watched the internet change in weird ways while feeling like nothing has really changed once remembering that I can tune into specific frequencies. (I'm working on being more optimistic and outgoing.)

So hello, my dears. You'll figure me out in time just as I will.
