hi, I'll be at GDC. if we're mutuals and you'd like to chat, get in touch!
@ianholmes @Riedl I'm thinking of doing a procgen meetup in the park on Friday. I'll try to send out invites by the end of the week. (The context here is that pre-pandemic I hosted a procgen lunch every GDC Friday.)

EDIT: I now have access, but this is important: Publications preventing libraries from acquiring context.

I tried to get this article:

https://www.economist.com/by-invitation/2022/06/09/artificial-neural-networks-today-are-not-conscious-according-to-douglas-hofstadter

According to my librarian,we can't get it at UW.

We have access, print and online, to all of the Economist from 1981, but not this piece — it's special "online only" content just for personal subscribers.

IMO this is unconscionable. I wonder if the author (a hero of mine since age 14) is aware they've wasted his time in this way.

Artificial neural networks today are not conscious, according to Douglas Hofstadter

The American cognitive scientist explains why not, despite their extraordinary accomplishments
