I'm here to make friends in #Philadelphia and the Fediverse. My posts will include public events and opportunities to connect, especially in the city.

Interests include #improv #comedy, #clown, #art, #photography, #drawing, #martial-arts, #FOSS

#anticonservative, per the Wilhoit commentary: https://crookedtimber.org/2018/03/21/liberals-against-progressives/#comment-729288

I'll be attending this Philly Mastodon Migration Party a week from Wednesday to represent Jawns.club and invite people to join our server (among other options). There will be several activities to help people socialize while learning the basics of the fediverse.

This post may only reach people already on fedi, but if you have friends who are not here yet, this could be a fun way to get them on board, so please spread the word.

Vicki Miller and Michael Lazrus spoke about #NoKings at the #Philadelphia Ethical Society on 2026-03-15.

Lazrus said the Black Lion party attended a previous protest. Lazrus used a laywer to convince them not to attend in the future. Lazrus was asked what he would say to people who feel safer when protected from state violence by black people with long guns. He reiterated that he worked with a lawyer and police to maintain non-violence.

#Clown is a weird art form. Normal people probably see a bizarre bid for attention. Some folks do catch on that the game is about using the nose to share what doesn't fit in a conventional social setting.

I'm doing a turn for the next slam in west philly.

@manchicken @automattack

I just remembered that you two have never met, and that is some bs.

@manchicken

A little while ago @NikkiM asked me what might be done to help a person who has speech and physical disabilities that make Siri unusable.

I don't know if we can fix Siri, but I bet if the three of us put our heads together we could come up with some assistive tools that would make a big difference.

Yesterday I visited @manchicken and saw his basement workshop. As a hobby, he combines art and technology.

He let me preview two projects, one involving some humor about Star Trek and another he's preparing for a prominent tech conference.

He keeps things legal, but if life were a heist movie, @manchicken would be the guy who says "Don't try to break into the vault. Just drop this tiny device behind a seat cushion anywhere in the building."

It's tempting to think that Americans don't care about the horrible things our government is doing; after all, we haven't managed to stop it.

I think that assessment is backward.

If we didn't care, the oligarchs wouldn't have needed to take over both political parties, break every political institution, all the media outlets, turn ICE into a violent political suppression force, and fire every competent leader from the military just to keep us in check.

When met @NikkiM I asked whether empathy is innate or learned. She basically said "yes" and we've been buddies ever since.

Last time we hung out, we were interrupted by a man with social challenges. I tried to politely mask my irritation. Nikki met him with warmth and openness. They had a fun conversation until he declared his love and sped away.

Nikki is a therapist, single-minded in her compassion. Ironically she's also kind of a scatterbrain, but that's another story ...
