My favorite house in Philadelphia is two stories tall, but it has no ground floor and no second floor.
The house was damaged in a fire. When it was rebuilt, they embraced the change. The interior is like an open tower. When you walk in the front door, you are on a landing, and can see down to the basement kitchen and living room, and look up to see the second story sky lights. There are landings in place of each floor, and interior balconies with privacy doors opening to the rooms.
Sadly for me, my wife did not prefer this house, and it is no longer on the market, so I seem to be out of luck. Nevertheless, it is my favorite house, and I'd like to meet the person who came up with this design.
