(This account will not be very active for the rest of 2025. If you're reading this in 2027, hi there and sorry.)

I'm your average nerd. You can feed me sci-fi/fantasy book recommendations and I won't hate you for it.

In return, I can post some music recommendations (mostly synthwave, dreamwave, ambient and some avant-garde type post-everything metal).

@ente Took me several attempts as well, this is the book that made it stick (learned on vim but the knowledge transfers well): https://pragprog.com/titles/dnvim2/practical-vim-second-edition/

If you want some flamenco-tinged symphonic (!) #darkwave from Venezuela, check out King Stephen's latest album, Esoterica:

I can't tell if the style mixes are grinding or spectacular yet. I just pretend I'm listening to a twisted anime RPG soundtrack, that seems to work.

If you need a mood boost, may I suggest Knorkator's 2023 concert in Berlin:

It helps a lot if you understand the (poetic, German) lyrics. But even if you don't, there's a simple joy in watching a half-naked 60 year old man doing jumping jacks on stage while singing in operatic falsetto to German industrial/neue deutsche Härte/rock music.

@[email protected] Oh hell yeah, Varpuspäivä off of Maaäet really pulls you down. Like Bohren and der Club of Gore but even heavier and more devastating. Very good reminder as well, I ought to listen to that one again!

Hiensynty is one of my favorite Tenhi songs. They manage to create a haunting and intimate soundscape with a minimal array of instruments: a piano, voice, drums and the lightest touch of synth.

@BonfireAtNight Ah, makes sense :) This is me: https://www.librarything.com/profile/psyq123

I'll add you back, I hope I get a ping if you add me (never tried).

By the way, your profile will have a "people with similar libraries" thing (can't remember what it's called) that should be a great source of people and recommendations too. I meant to reserve a few hours on a weekend to really check that out once, but my to-read pile is tall enough already.

If you're new to #synthwave , I only found out Dynatron has remastered one of his most popular albums, Escape Velocity, in 2024. This is a great way to get into synthwave as I think it's one of the milestones of the genre and has aged very well.
