I logged into my old AOL account and found this…

David Bunnell cofounded several of the most important computer magazines of all time. Here's his unpublished account of his adventures in tech media, costarring Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, and many others. https://technologizer.com/2024/01/20/the-inside-story-of-pc-magazine-pc-world-and-macworlds-origins-as-told-by-david-bunnell/
The Inside Story of PC Magazine, PC World, and Macworld's Origins, as Told by David Bunnell

Introduction by Harry: David Bunnell (1947-2016) didn't create the idea of computer magazines. But he may have done more than anyone to turn them into a big business. In the 1970s, when David was working at pioneering PC company MITS, he published Computer Notes—as far as I know, the first periodica

You can’t monetize the network, indeed.
I’d like to see them succeed for the long haul but ad dollars are apparently drying up all over. Leo cites YouTube sucking the money out of the ad business. Is that true?

Welcome, Stitcher users!

I started Overcast ten years ago in large part because I was afraid of Stitcher taking over the market with its proprietary walled garden (which was even more walled at the time, and was gaining significant traction).

I wanted to ensure that the open world of podcasting survived and thrived, even when faced with strong proprietary threats.

The names and players have changed since then, and the battle continues, but open podcasting remains dominant and healthy today.

@adam Listened to Ep 136 of Podcasting 2.0 and agree completely with you on the Apple Vision Pro. It's absolutely my first thought as a use case. And at $3,500, if the displays are as good as they claim, it's less expensive than 4 high-end displays. Especially how you can incorporate the computer screen. You can just run Linux in Virtual mode on top of MacOS. Add the portability and that's a winning use case for this thing.

It appears Buzzsprout is no longer promoting V4V initiatives and I can't even see how to change it on my feed via the GUI. There is nothing about V4V under the Monetization system. My podcast still has all the 2.0 features but it appears I can't manage them within Buzzsprout.

Anyone know if I'm missing something?

@adam @dave the Fountain transcript thing seems to work like any other processor for an episode that hasn’t been transcribed yet. I paid for it to transcribe this episode https://fountain.fm/episode/ggTKryMb9UsZcD74mAKg and it took just over a minute.

It would be interesting to see if one of you orders it if it’s instant. Apologies if it’s already been tested.
