I, for one, am glad there are many EDM variants of Hans Zimmer's Interstellar soundtrack.

Hello InterWebs. Can you please stop creating web forms that move the whole page up or down when a button is pressed. Thanks!

Another year, another few more comments on Android not supporting DHCPv6.

Well, that wasn't how Christmas Day was supposed to go.

RIP Henry Kamichoff, 2013 to Dec 2024.

I just discovered PiKVM. I am in love.

My suburban cheapo chain haircut place that I've been using since 2021 started asking for my home address today.

I think it's time to find something new.

I really hate it when coworkers tell me that I look tired. I think I have resting "tired" face.

Knowing almost nothing about PostgreSQL (I do know some things about MariaDB), I decided to upgrade from 15 to 16 using the "dump and restore" method. My Mastodon server seems to still work, so I guess I did it right?

I came up with this joke when I was asleep, so forgive me if it's not very funny

I really just don't like White Christmas (the 1954 film, in case there are others). My wife plays it every year. It gets worse each year.

@tadzik It certainly lacks coherence, but still funny in a random way. The middle row made me giggle.

@tadzik peak computing experience

hdd: remember numbers loudly

@tadzik I would say no to any printer with the state of the industry. XD
@jacket Hah, I picked "The Brother Laser Printer that everyone has" for the other image for a reason :)

(https://www.theverge.com/23642073/best-printer-2023-brother-laser-wi-fi-its-fine)
Best printer 2023: just buy this Brother laser printer everyone has, it’s fine

The best printer to buy is the one that works without you needing to think about it or subscribe to some nonsense ink refill thing. For most people, that’s the Brother HL-L2305W or something like the MFC-L2750DW that adds a scanner.

The Verge
@tadzik My! That looks good!
@jacket They aren't lying either. I have a DCP-1512E and it Just Works. The toner check does seem to have *some* software component in it, since taking it out, shaking it and putting it back in didn't make it print any more pages. But other than that, good stuff, and it was pretty cheap if I remember correctly.
@tadzik @jacket Full Ack - I have the HL-2250DN since 2011 and it just works for the 10 prints (at most), I have to do every year. It still has the first toner cartridge in it...
@tadzik @jacket and Brother even provides native drivers for Linux
@MagicLike @tadzik I remember HP being like that a long time ago.

@tadzik @jacket this is getting sidetracked, but can you give us some estimation on how many pages you can print with a cartridge and how much it costs?

The meme was great fun, btw. Kudos.

@Disputatore @jacket Oh, I have no clue. I bought it 5-ish years ago and replaced a toner last year, but I couldn't tell you how many pages it did with one.
@tadzik @jacket you used the same cartridge for four years?! That's excellent. I mean, it depends on how often you print.
@Disputatore @jacket Yeah, not very often :P I mostly need a scanner for work, I print things less than once a month, so something that doesn't dry up like the ink cartridge is a must.
@tadzik @jacket there's a jet printer in my house against my will. I never even considered a laser printer as, no colours, and also thought it would be too expensive in the long run. I guess I was wrong on the second one.
@Disputatore @tadzik @jacket I used to have to print 60 copies of documents fairly regularly and the toner still lasted years. I’ve definitely replaced it more than once over 10 years, though.
@tewha @tadzik @jacket how could I have failed so miserably? Well, in my defence, I believe the original intention included color printing.
@tadzik Just... brilliant. Never doubt yourself.
@tadzik Inkjet printer: pisses numbers onto paper
@cato @tadzik My Canon printer: refuses numbers onto paper
@FrankHghTwr @cato @tadzik Mine is just sexists. It refuses to print for me but when my husband clicks the button, it happily vomits paper after paper! (Torn and without print but still …)
@proeiszeitdeaf @cato @tadzik As a guy who does get the printer to print when the girls don't: it's all in the "slam" of the paper tray 😉
@FrankHghTwr @cato @tadzik He doesn’t do anything like that. He just clicks «print» on my computer.
@tadzik the inkjet printer part :

The last 3: Need a 500ko 90's driver packaged in a 700Mo compressed binary with a ton of useless sofware

@tadzik

Well, it showed up in my feed from being boosted, so it can't be that bad.
I'll give you a giggle, and a boost. You earned it.

@Dennis5891 Thank you. I feel validated – in my sleep!
@tadzik
fun! I think GPU should be more like:
Draws triangles from inaccurate numbers
@tadzik absolutely cackling at "forgets numbers"
@tadzik Inkjet printer: removes numbers from wallet
@tadzik I don’t understand it but I value your effort.
@tadzik I'm using this for my next Computer Organization class
@tadzik nah this should be mandatory schooling.
@tadzik the "no" is peak comedy
@tadzik very good. My yr8s may actually remember something from this.
Minor mod - laser melts numbers?
@grant_h Ah, that'd indeed be more fitting. I'll keep it in mind for the v2 :)
@tadzik the "awake" version 😜
If you want proper “burns numbers onto paper”: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermal_printing
Thermal printing - Wikipedia

@tadzik don't worry, it's very funny
@tadzik That HP Photo"Smart" shit should be "Reads numbers from your debit card every two weeks or so"
@tadzik yeah, the last entry rulez!
@tadzik Keeping with the simple language you could change CPU, FPU and GPU to “counts,” “counts smaller” and “draws triangles.” I get where you’re going with the inkjet printer. I wonder if there’s something funnier to say that captures the frustration of using one.
@tadzik I had my font size too small and thought HDD said "remembers numbers poorly" which also works. Loudly is definitely better, though. 😀
@tadzik Your dream jokes are funnier than my awake jokes, apparently. 😂
