Dean @ Idaho Law. Democracy, detention, and human rights. Speaking only for myself.
I would be working out RN, but I sat cross legged for 10 minutes and now both legs are asleep. Happy Monday to you too.
In ‘14, I had two little kids. We watched in Jersey City, which lit up with partisans cheering their countries of origin or ancestry. In ‘18, we were in NOLA and I was mid-treatment for breast cancer. My kids were old enough to join a “draft” - I don’t remember who won, but they sure they do. And now in ‘22, I am in Idaho and about to head into the wilderness. Grateful for my health and family. Wrenched by the reporting of continuing abuses of this year’s host. Inspired by the beautiful game.
Taking a moment to measure my adult life in World Cups. My first intro was when I was working a college summer in Leipzig. France was hosting, so no one did anything except watch. The next time I was in a village in coastal Ghana. We watched on a black and white screen with bunny ears and couldn’t see anything. In ‘06, I desperately wanted to be in Germany, but I was studying for the bar. In ‘10, I wanted to be in SA, but I had a newborn who didn’t sleep, so we too turns watching all night.

After 1 week on #Mastodon, the biggest difference I notice compared to #Twitter is the way each network makes me feel.

Twitter:
Open, scroll…
“Why are people so horrible to each other?”

Mastodon:
Open, scroll…
“Wow! There are so many interesting people in the world! I want to know more of them.”

I sense being here is changing my perspective of social media. #TwitterMigration

🙏🏽 WELCOME!

Here is an important tip. If you are planning to share a screenshot or example of someone that you blocked or reported. Or of something that is offensive to you. Don’t infect the rest of us with this. Instead, be sure to use the proper content warning.

on my application, it’s that shield with it! That appears below this window. It’s between the smiley face emoji and the world icon.

This will open a window to either write the words “content warning“ or something more specific.

One thing that was super common on Mastodon / Fediverse prior to this mass migration was adding image descriptions to help be accessible to our many blind and partially sighted users here. Many people won't boost posts without them.
Please consider adding alt text to your images when you can.
We need a new puzzle board . I had a wooden one that broke in the NOLA-Boise move, but it was always kind of unwieldy. Does anyone #onhere have one you like?
@professorkalb @BlackAzizAnansi oh it’s fantastic, I couldn’t put it down! Also Andrea Campbell’s work + Jacob Grumbach’s Laboratories Against Democracy. These def provide compelling cautionary tales of federalism’s often deleterious effects on health + democracy. But I’m eager for us to push towards a more positive vision. Here’s a recent piece where I explain a bit: https://www.salon.com/2022/07/06/progressives-must-take-the-fight-to-the-states-thats-now-the-only-way-to-win/
Wait - we are showing off our dogs?! I am here for it.
Day 1 #onhere is lovely so far. Finding some old friends and all kinds of lovely interesting new people who wouldn’t have been kicked up to my by the old algorithms….
