@neil I too fantasize about the terminal only computer. But I think it's a pipe dream. The web is both too useful and too ubiquitous, and, in all of its modern horror, just can't be shoehorned into the terminal.

I mean, you could render it off screen and use accessibility tools like a screen reader... but I'm not that masochistic.

@molly0xfff This is why I'm not on the AI content hate train. It's galling to see the likes of Altman making money hoovering up everything, but the last thing we all need is more copyright laws. We need more rights instead.

@nnye Yeah, I bought hex kit for this reason - appliance repair. These things are designed to be chucked away though. Spare parts don't exist so you have to jury rig it

@NatureMC As copyright has been strengthened (particularly the US), it's become more of a cudgel for the same rich companies you complain about to stifle the work of independent artists. Want to use a song in a remix? Do you need to negotiate a license with Sony Music's lawyers? Good luck.

Training AI uses much, much less of a work than a sample in a remix. I think both should be allowed.

@NatureMC I hear what you're saying, but I'm just not a copyright maxi. Copyright exists because it's in the public interest to incentivise artists keep creating works for our culture. It's not a fundamental human right. There is a competing public interest in being able to freely use and enjoy these creations, which is why copyright is limited in time and scope.
