Help me repair my toaster! The lever refuses to latch at the bottom. The toaster still works but you have to hold down the lever if you want the toaster to actually toast.

I have attempted to take it apart but it has these pin hex screws (security screws?) against which my array of allen keys and regular screwdrivers have achieved nothing.

Leaving aside my irritability of who thinks it’s necessary for a frickin’ toaster to be protected by these screws, can I get into my toaster without spending a toaster amount of money on a specialised pin hex removal gadget?

(Ok. Still irritable)

@nnye Yeah, I bought hex kit for this reason - appliance repair. These things are designed to be chucked away though. Spare parts don't exist so you have to jury rig it

@poliq boooo. I was looking at the ifixit guide and was hoping I could just make a small fix. (And if that didn’t work then I would then buy a new toaster with nothing to lose but my time)

@nnye you can get a security bit set at harbor freight for $6. I'm not sure what a bottom barrel toaster goes for these days but probably more than that. https://www.harborfreight.com/security-bit-set-33-piece-68459.html
