OK! I think I fixed it.

I did a clean install of v1.1.1 when I set it up, and for some reason "~/live/public/system/accounts/avatars" wasn't created.

I copied the old folder over from my backup and it's all happy now, fingers crossed.

I've updated to v1.1.1 over on https://bibeogaem.zone and profile pics/avatars are no longer showing. Everything's a broken image.

Is anyone else seeing that, or is this specific to me?

NERD QUESTION: When setting up a mastodon instance, what ports do I need to have open?

I've got it working but I'm not seeing anything on the federated timeline on mine.

Hot take: closing registrations on this instance will have been the secret sauce needed to make federation really take off, and others should follow pattern. Lots of instances with limited registration numbers is a good thing for now.
