Just kind of trying out this place.

I suppose I need a proper profile now as I use this place a lot and the above line from when I first came here seems a bit out of date now. But I feel like leaving it there for historical significance 😄

I'm on Mastodon too, but this place is different (and really special - if you've not heard of Firefish, check it out, you might like it).

Trying to be a bit more creative / playful here; the increased character count means some posts will be longer. May sometimes post more serious stuff over here rather than bothering with threading posts on Mastodon, but mostly it'll be less serious.

Eyüp Sultan Mosque, Istanbul, Türkiye. Photos from a visit a few years ago. The mosque is located in the Eyüp region of Istanbul.

Named after one of the Companions of Prophet Muhammad, Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (Eyüp is the Turkish form of Ayyub), who is believed to have died in this location in the siege of Constantinople in the 670s. After falling ill during the siege, his final request was to be buried as close as possible to the city walls; his comrades-in-arms fought through the Roman lines to carry out his wish.

The first siege failed. Only in the 1450s was the city eventually conquered, around 775 years later; Eyüp Sultan was one of the first mosques to be built, on the site of Abu Ayyub's grave, a few years after the conquest. By comparison, the famous Blue Mosque was built in the early 1600s - more than 150 years later. The original Eyüp Sultan fell into ruin and was rebuilt in its current form in 1800.

Really enjoyed this quick early look by @quill18 at Foundry. Looks like a great 3d Factorio-style game.

Factorio is one of my favourite games of all time, so anything in the same genre is interesting to me.

Very excited to see how this one develops, but the basics shown in this video look compelling.

I feel like it is probably normal for enterprises, when they contract out work, to ask the contractor how long it will take, and factor in that they probably underestimate the timescale.

In my work, the contractor instead most likely has to factor in all the delays we create by how long it takes us to reply to their emails or do anything so they overestimate how long work will take ​​
