Production Joker: I just want to see the world undeployed.

British-American Unix systems programmer, system administrator, Site Reliability Engineer, whatever the current in vogue term is. Think of the stereotype and you have a decent first approximation, beard (in winter) and all.

I do have a sense of humor. It's often dry or quirky. Various expeditions have so far failed to prove the existence of this alleged sense of humor, but equally, they haven't disproven its existence, so I'm still in the game.

Me: 4 hours of clearing snow; first 30 minutes with snow blower before battery died and the smaller batteries refused to touch this snow, the rest done by hand with a snow shovel, until I’m a twitching wreck.

iOS: 4 hours walking, 5200+ steps, 2.48 miles. Verdict: 8 minutes of exercise.

@mjg59 I vaguely recall some article in an Amiga magazine, decades ago, mentioned the weird hacks someone did to use a Mac floppy drive and the variable rotational speed. Searching now, I see https://github.com/Franks3dShop/Amiga2MacFloppy which might not directly help without an amiga but seems to include enough technical details that you might be able to retarget their work?

Whelp, don’t buy custom sunglass attachments from cliponexpress.com … I ordered on Nov 28th, cost $60, they arrived today (June 16th) and they’re garbage. As in, I’d expect them to retail for $4 and would still feel like an idiot for buying this trash.

Keep an eye out for Cory Doctorow’s keynote speech from PyCon US 2025 being posted online. It’s well worth your time and attention to hear it.

@danderson And us? Should we ... really ... go ahead and try to read 2484 lines of VHDL?

@danderson Does Admiral Ackbar need to have a word?
@fanf The St. Mary's folks were mostly well-meaning. In fact, so is that Doctor. Which makes a pleasant change.

@me The SPF record only needs to include those hosts which route mail to other organizations. If you have an outbound mail-server which handles implementing DANE/TLS and other such things, then its IP is the only thing which needs to appear.

So if you have an MS Exchange server on-premises, it does not need to appear in SPF. If you have various external services which can generate mail but which route through a compliance gateway, then the compliance gateway is the only thing which needs to appear in SPF.

Thus the value of DKIM lookups, in identifying message generators. It's fraught to DKIM sign at the edge, because a mistake in ACLs will have you DKIM-signing spam. Most systems I've seen have the generating system do the original signing there.
