Hey we're in the same boat! Ive never finished the game either 😅 I have some 1,200 hrs in it, but most of that is testing my mods.

that def works well for an open-world adventure type role-playing game. It could also help "phase-in" any new DLC - where before there was empty fields, maybe there's suddenly a new sign-post pointing to a new town where your new campaign awaits.
I think new content will work for any game genre actually, it just has to be well made! Which means the story in the base game has to be fertile ground for extending it further and further.
