NEW: “What impressed Mr. Toderian most was not just the exclusion of cars but what replaced them. ‘They weren’t lazy about it. They didn’t just throw up barriers and ban cars,’ he said.”

My comments along with Val Plante’s & others in this great article about #Montreal’s inspiring summer street transformations!

Montreal avenue’s car-free transformation proves a hit with residents, business owners

Almost 2.5 kilometres of Mont-Royal Ave. has been blocked off to traffic, with art installations and greenery creating a daily festival, packed with crowds almost around the clock

BTW, this is a city scene. It's amazing what some trees and a water feature will attract! There are 300 homes here + commercial in the space of two city blocks.
When mom is in the water and junior is on the deck. Mom was rather concerned, and I suspect junior is going to get a good quacking to!

RT @giulio_mattioli: How to preserve the status quo in 3 easy moves:

1. Take a zero-sum game (like street space allocation)

2. Argue that it would be unfair if anyone were worse off, even if it's those that are currently getting the most

3. Done

Success!
Getting ready for Canada Day fireworks at Victoria's Songhees Park.
The BC Emergency Medical Service bike paramedics were out for Victoria's Canada Day celebrations. It seems the bikes let them move quickly through congested areas and big events. The inner harbour was a zoo, so I have no trouble believing this!
THIS is *exactly* the correct response to the rapid emergence of a new technology and concomitant mode of mobility which is vastly more efficient across a whole range of dimensions and vastly less world-destroying than the private car! Paris Mayor Enters Fray Between E-Bikes and Pedestrians — By Fighting Drivers - Streetsblog New York City

Anne Hidalgo will help pedestrians feel safer not with a crackdown on micromobility, but with a common-sense plan to take more away space from drivers.

But Public Transport should make a profit 🤡🤡
