Times when it's good to be a local councillor...
This week's South #Swindon Parish Council meeting had an annual update from our Old Town #Library, and I wanted to share this phenomenal figure: in 2022, we loaned more than 19,000 books! Well over a four-fold increase from when we took it over in 2017.
And this year we're going to open Swindon's first new library in heck-knows how long, when we take on the community building at Badbury Park.
A core feature of the New Eastern Villages was its bus-first design. It was to be designed around "#bus #rapidtransit", featuring a bus-only bridge and a core high frequency route.
Wanna see the problem? That highlighted road is the one in question. The BRT was to enter at Great Stall Bridge, go through the retail, the warehouses, past the secondary school, and on to P&R.
Losing this road takes a chunk right out of the middle...
Today wraps up 2022's last #LabourDooorstep session in #Swindon!
We've gone out for literally hundreds of sessions this year, in the depths of winter & the hottest waves of summer; wind, rain, snow, you name it...
Our local members do amazing work, & we've been lucky to host teams from the wider #Labour family too. We've got big council elections in May, & we're going to do our bit to #GTTO
So, 2 weeks off for a spot of 🦃, then back at it! Think dry thoughts for January ☔

Other than being lovely making connections with new people, it's so important for #London #LabourParty members to lend a hand out here in the sticks. We've got 2 marginal seats with 2 great parliamentary candidates in Heidi Alexander & Chris Lloyd, and we're on the cusp of taking control of the council in May.
Places like this are the front line for #GTTO and we need all the help we can get!

Online & offline, young & old, look out for your friends & #ReachOut to support anyone suffering from bullying.
And for politicos like me: always give zero tolerance to online hate. Whatever your disagreements, always remember that we're all human, and nobody deserves abuse.
