Really interesting article in the Guardian today about the low birth rate in Poland. Despite lots of government support for young families, people aren't having children. For many reasons Polish women and men are simply not meeting: they move in different circles, and end up living alone.

Rayner was targeted because she was dangerous - her back story made her appealing to the very voters the Right press wants to steer towards ReformUK.
There is no such thing as a disinterested political hatchet job... ask yourself who benefits from Rayner's departure?

This should be obvious, but just in case it isn't, the loneliness epidemic is highly advantageous to the rich and powerful. The less of a social security net we have, the easier it is to divide and conquer us. This is also why they hate unions with a passion.
And if they can make money by giving us AI "friends" to "solve" this epidemic, even better, especially as it'll make us even more dependent on things that they directly control.

Thomas Guyot-Sionnest@jwz @david_chisnall I think the issue has more to do with the current app distribution model. Most users will never install an app outside their phone vendor's app store, and in fact for iPhone it's almost impossible to do so. Even if Signal resisted or offered direct app downloads, blocking from the app stores would affect most users.
