The No Kings protests were a success but it's only the beginning.

John Lewis National Day of Action Informational Session · John Lewis Actions

Come learn how you can participate in the National John Lewis Day of Action! “Get in good trouble, necessary trouble, and help redeem the soul of America.” – Congressman John Lewis Our freedoms are under attack. Our democracy is being pushed to the brink by a billionaire class who seek to rule the nation for their own self interests at the expense of ours. We’ve been here before—and we know what to do - we know how to push back! On July 17, we honor the anniversary of the passing of civil rights icon, John Lewis—not with ceremonies, but with action. Across the country, we will take to the streets and into communities to uplift his non-violent struggle for justice, voting rights, and dignity for all. This is more than a protest—this is a moral reckoning; a fight against voter suppression; a continuation of Congressman Lewis’ legacy and a new front in the freedom struggle; this is a movement for Democracy!

Attached: 1 video By now you've probably seen this unedited footage of Trump's birthday parade with the mostly empty bleachers so quiet that all you can hear is the squeaking of the tank. And as funny as this is, I want to call your attention to another aspect of this that seems to have not been reported on so widely - and that is how utterly joyless MAGA people and gatherings are. I live in Seattle, where the No Kings protest was basically a non-stop party in Cal Anderson Park all day long. There were musicians, dancers, performers, my god people put on fully acted PLAYS about Lady Liberty beating the shit out of "King" Donald. People were laughing and singing and chanting. There were jokes told, some people were handing out free snacks and bottled water. It was a party! No, strike that, it was a HANGOUT. It was like hanging out with 50,000 of your best friends. Now, watch the clip I posted again. Look at the people in the stands. Really LOOK. Zoom in if you have to. They're TIRED. They're wet, they're exhausted, some of them are angry. Most of them are just standing there immobile, miserably filming the one tank driving past them on their mobile phone as some droning voice gives them instructions about how to spend money at Coinbase from offscreen. There's no music. There's no laughter. There's no JOY. This is Trump's America. A joyless, artless tiresome wet blanket filled with the squeaking of tank treads and the cold sound of boots on asphalt. We could have had joy. But we got this instead.

no fucking way there were 50,000 people in dc. the 10,000 in oakland dwarfed what i've seen from dc

My partner, "Herself", and I went to the "NoKings" rally yesterday. It was glorious. It was exhausting. She's two weeks shy of 80. I'm 76. I had a stroke three years ago that damaged my balance, and I gave a game knee from a hit and run 50 years ago, so I walk with some difficulty. But of all the things we could do against fascism, it beat living hell out of getting shot at and bombed.

We dragged ourselves home, ate leftovers and zoned out on a Valkyries game. We were sound asleep by 9:30 PM. She was still asleep an 9:00 AM.

Now that it's morning I felt ready to resume my traditional doom scrolling. So I did, but what to my wondering eyes should appear but thousands of other "NoKings" rallies. Damn, but there's a *lot* of us. We heavily outnumber the #MAGAts. Heavily. We *are* going to win.

"They got the guns but we got the numbers" -- The Doors, 1968

We have guns, too, but after seeing how many of us we are, I think we'll not have to use them. This brings joy to my heart. I shooting war here would every bit as ugly as a shooting war anywhere, probably worse because here we have "a rifle behind every blade of grass". I had begun to doubt, but it turns out that it's not going to be necessary. We may need to stage a #GeneralStrike, but we're not going to have to kill each other, just down tools and put our hands in our pockets, and walk out the door.

the whole 'am i the asshole' thing is sad. y'all need to practice self awareness and trust yourself

One of my favorite NY landmarks is the iron fence at Bowling Green, which has stood there since before the Declaration of Independence was signed. You can still see the uneven parts where NYers sawed off the decorative crowns the day the declaration was read.

Today we said it again. No kings.

The Oldest Fence in New York

Built hundreds of years ago this downtown iron barrier once protected a much despised king.
