There's a lot of confusion about what's happening in Venezuela right now, I'll make a short thread explaining the situation.

I will explain a little about the background of everything, why what is happening is happening, and my thoughts on the future of the country.

You like Signal for it's outstanding #confidentiality? Fine!

You like Threema, since it's safe, it's from #Switzerland, and #ElsbethSigmund as #Heidi was your #childhoodCrush? Great!

You like Whatsapp, because your friends are there? I don't blame you!

But 𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 don't claim, that any of those #centralServices would support #digitalAutonomy, #digitalIndependence, #digitalSovereignty. They have their merits, but they still are #walledGardens.

@usia @debacle yip, i think this is what people use at @xHain_hackspace as well.

@strk I think free software projects should prefer open infrastructure that doesn't lock-in or deal with data. An org like OSGeo has the responsibility to lead by example. At the end projects decide for themselves and this is fine, IMHO. It is a process of consciousness, nothing to dictate.

If I decide freely, I self-host gitea or use an open platform like codeberg - in the past I have also mirrored to githuv. In my job it is all open source but we use only github, but this is not my decision.

@strk Hi Sandro, sorry for the delay. I am not that much on social media these days. I am Felix D. on the list. Thanks for your interest.
@strk I'm honored to be nominated as OSGeo Charter Member.
