It's clear that AI assisted coding is dividing developers (welcome to the culture wars!). I've seen a few blog posts now that talk about how some people just "love the craft", "delight in making something just right, like knitting", etc, as opposed to people who just "want to make it work". As if that explains the divide.

How about this, some people resent the notion of being a babysitter to a stochastic token machine, hastening their own cognitive decline. Some people resent paying rent to a handful of US companies, all coming directly out of the TESCREAL human extinction cult, to be able to write software. Some people resent the "worse is better" steady decline of software quality over the past two decades, now supercharged. Some people resent that the hegemonic computing ecosystem is entirely shaped by the logic of venture capital. Some people hate that the digital commons is walled off and sold back to us. Oh and I guess some people also don't like the thought of making coding several orders of magnitude more energy intensive during a climate emergency.

But sure, no, it's really because we mourn the loss of our hobby.

No. Nononononono. It is not built on _knowledge_, it it built on _data_. And not everyone's experiences are available as data, many communities are excluded. Also: "Collective" implies some sort of collaboration and shared activity. But "AI" is just accumulation by a few powerful.

So No. It's not collective but extractive, not knowledge but data, not humankind but the hegemonic western view. Everything in that statement is wrong.

Er zijn journalisten die huiveren bij de gedachte dat ze als 'activist' bekend komen te staan. Dat zou weleens hun niet bestaande objectiviteit in het geding kunnen brengen. Dat weerhoudt ze er bijvoorbeeld van om extreemrechts gedachtegoed als 'extreemrechts' te omschrijven.
Je hebt ook journalisten die geen enkele belemmering zien om een extreemrechtse politicus als Thierry Baudet te adviseren hoe hij weer bij talkshows aan tafel kan komen. Thijs Broer en Peter Kee behoren tot die laatste groep, zo blijkt uit onderstaand artikel van Broer in Vrij Nederland.
‘Ruim een jaar geleden kreeg ik een reeks appjes van Thierry Baudet,' schrijft Broer. 'Hij wilde graag met mij en Peter Kee, politiek redacteur bij de talkshows van BNNVARA, bespreken hoe hij weer vaste voet aan de grond kon krijgen bij de "mainstream media’" De FvD-leider bleek daartoe een rondje langs Haagse journalisten te maken.'
Ik denk dan: 1 Welke journalist wil dat thema überhaupt met een politicus bespreken? 2 Welke journalist wil dat in godsnaam met een extreemrechts politicus bespreken?
Het is vragen naar de bekende weg. En er zijn dus veel meer journalisten bereid deze dienst te bewijzen, want je krijgt er altijd iets voor terug. Dat noem ik al jaren het Grote Bureau van Wederdiensten.

Broer en Kee denken gewillig met Baudet mee: ‘Tijdens het gesprek in september 2024 legden we Baudet uit dat het in ieder geval zou helpen als hij zou ophouden met het ontkennen van de maanlanding en zijn verhalen over het zionistische wereldcomplot van reptielen vanuit het World Economic Forum.’
De fascistische tribunalen die zijn partijgenoot Van Houwelingen wil organiseren voor andersdenkende politici, vergeet Broer hier even. Collega Kee sprak er in 2022 over met Sjoerd Wiemer Sjoerdsma, het doelwit van de Fvd-fascist. Meer dan twee jaar later overlegt Kee weer met de zwakzinnig-extremistische leider van FvD om te zien hoe die weer met zijn kop op TV kan komen.
Een lastige vraag waarop Baudet een jaar later een passend antwoord heeft: iemand anders tot partijleider benoemen. Broer concludeert dat het plannetje nog lukt ook, want FvD stijgt in de peilingen. Met hulp van de "mainstream media" (NOS, NRC, de Volkskrant, rtlnieuws e.a.) die de nieuwe leider uitgebreid aan het woord laten. En dankzij journalisten die bereid zijn politici - hoe extreem ook - van adviezen te voorzien.
Maar gelukkig zijn ze niet activistisch.
