Here Aegidius Mastodon, early ancestor of #JohnMastodon of the 15th century, is seen delivering a toot to King Henry VIII.
Obviously in those days the internet was still entirely made out of wood.

I think when a lot of people hear something like “my mental illness makes it hard for me to work a corporate job” they interpret it as like, “I’m just too crazy to be in an office, who knows what I’ll do!!” or “I’m prone to depression and can’t reliably get out of bed”…
It's all true. All of it.
WOW. Elon Musk's Twitter straight-up banned the account for Mastodon. Just, wow.

I'm amazed that people trust Tesla FSD given what's known about Tesla processes, e.g., Tesla took an early Mobileye ADAS system (designed to recognize vehicle rears, to provide emergency braking in some circumstances), called it autopilot, and shipped it for general highway self driving.

By design, the system didn't recognize vehicles from all angles, so a Tesla drove full speed into the side of a semi.

That wasn't bad luck — it was inevitable that an early ADAS system would fail like this.

@pluralistic The more I read about FTX, the more it sounds like “What if Enron, but perpetrated by Jacob Wohl?”
in the future, basically all websites will be full of unblockable ads and/or implemented entirely in ultra-fucked webassembly/opengl, and the tech-savvy will browse the web entirely through cat & mouse proxy servers running headless browsers to OCR the inaccessible content back into old-fashioned normal HTML and illegally redistribute it through peer-to-peer networks
Folks in tech who say it's easy to criticize but hard to build... Sorry, no. It's easy to build if you don't care about the flaws or societal consequences or ripping off others' work. Any midwit sociopath can do that. The hard thing is to build something that *isn't* evil.
