The nonprofit sector is putting out an urgent call to action to all nonprofits and nonprofit workers. Our sector is under attack. HR 9495, up for a vote this week, would empower a Trump-appointed treasury secretary new powers to strip a nonprofit’s status; opponents fear spurious attacks on perceived ideological opposition. Bill Threatening Nonprofits Advances in US House—Again - Non Profit News | Nonprofit Quarterly

Last week, HR 9495, a bill that would give the US secretary of the treasury the power to strip nonprofits of their tax-exempt status if unilaterally deemed to be a “terrorist-supporting” organization was defeated by House Democrats. This week, the bill is back to the US House of Representatives for a full vote.

Trump's nomination of Gaetz will be the clearest signal yet of whether GOP senators are ready to do his bidding on all sorts of issues.

If Trump can get 51 votes for Gaetz, he can get a Senate majority for just about anything — like cutting back Social Security.

Be warned.

@setsly I talk with Trump supporters whenever they're willing; they rarely want to reveal much. It usually comes down to voting for their bank accounts and avoiding the cultural conversation; however I strongly believe their fear of cultural change is the bigger issue. There's a lot of discomfort for many people talking about this. I know sociologists are describing this as a turning point in our history and that's why there's such a tug of war going on. Thanks for the good conversation.
@setsly I agree, the Democratic Party made terrible mistakes. The power of the DNC must be challenged. We're now paying the price and heading into frightening uncertain times. Voters have a responsibility to make educated choices, and there were no surprises with Trump. We have generations of people now who have not studied American or world history or government, and don't understand the implications of this man being given nearly full control (pending the House).
In talking with so many people over the last three days, we all agree -- the first thing to do, after a brief self-care respite, is to build our safety network of everyone we know in our communities and how to get in contact with them easily and quickly. Don't just rely on social media, since we can't count on that in the future. For instance, the vulnerable may need medical and legal support going forward. And the benefits of a social support network couldn't be needed more than now.
The most traumatizing fact is that millions of Americans willingly and knowingly made the choice to vote for hatred and cruelty in this election. #trauma #depression
