The most traumatizing fact is that millions of Americans willingly and knowingly made the choice to vote for hatred and cruelty in this election. #trauma #depression

@onewildlife1

You're not wrong. It was done willingly and knowingly, in the case of some millions.

However, please be aware that even more millions believe that it's the Democratic party which stands for hatred and cruelty. As allegedly demented cultural saboteurs.

I sense that most folks here, in the Left-leaning Mastodon system, don't talk to Trump supporters too often. I mean ordinary Trump supporters; not outliers who own MAGA hats and such. If they did, they'd know: for Trump supporters, #politics is all about the culture war. Anything else is a distant secondary concern to the vast majority of them. Thus, law and policy changes which wouldn't directly modify human culture can be easier wins, for the Left, than the Left currently realizes. 1 of 2

@setsly I agree, the Democratic Party made terrible mistakes. The power of the DNC must be challenged. We're now paying the price and heading into frightening uncertain times. Voters have a responsibility to make educated choices, and there were no surprises with Trump. We have generations of people now who have not studied American or world history or government, and don't understand the implications of this man being given nearly full control (pending the House).

@onewildlife1

I like how you think, although I vaguely suspect there is yet a misunderstanding between us. I wonder if you followed my link. See, I am trying to describe the pathology of voters who sincerely prefer the Republican party. I cannot tell whether I'm getting that across.

@setsly I talk with Trump supporters whenever they're willing; they rarely want to reveal much. It usually comes down to voting for their bank accounts and avoiding the cultural conversation; however I strongly believe their fear of cultural change is the bigger issue. There's a lot of discomfort for many people talking about this. I know sociologists are describing this as a turning point in our history and that's why there's such a tug of war going on. Thanks for the good conversation.
