European Data Protection Supervisor starts trial of online office document suite #Nextcloud and Collabora Online (the online version of #LibreOffice to assess increasing security and privacy.
More #OpenSource options for #HigherEducation and #EdTech grounded in government best practices.
This month, the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) announced having started to use the Open source Nextcloud suite and Collabora Online. This decision is a result of the data protection authority’s Digital Strategy for a safer digital future. While the initiative is yet just a pilot, these first steps might imply a wider uptake of OSS solutions in the EU institutions.
The central holding of the #InternetArchive court opinion is, if you own a physical book and scan it, you infringed the author's copyright by creating an unauthorized copy—even if you never use both at the same time. (This also implies that printing an ebook = infringement.)
That's quite bad.

So many websites are broken.
If big media cared about authors, they’d pay better.
Bc they only care about $, they’re trying to smear the 🐦InternetArchive to hide that they’re arguing in court to END LIBRARY DIGITAL RIGHTS today.
Speak up for ALL libraries, incl 🐦InternetArchive at http://BattleForLibraries.com
The Internet Archive is a library, full stop. They are one of the largest libraries in the world, preserving our history in many forms that are accessible the world over, for free, to anyone.
Who can disrespect that?
Big Media and Big Tech, of course.
