So many websites are broken.

@benjaminhollon My e-books use a lot of client-side JS, but they were designed to still work perfectly well with no JS.

@nantucketebooks
Yay! Sadly, you're in the minority there. :(

I've been doing the same thing. The main exception is A Rainless Sky, but that's also copmletely reliant on JS for different reasons than most sites are.

@benjaminhollon To your point, though, any site that uses CloudFlare may not work if NoScript or GNU LibreJS is enabled.
@nantucketebooks
My sites did, when Cloudflare was enabled. It's just a backend thing, except in specific cases.

@benjaminhollon JavaScript is just used way too much now a days. I only use JavaScript on my main site for copy to clipboard and the search engine.

I've been thinking about fixing the search engine by making it server side and not requiring JavaScript at all.

@adamsdesk
Definitely a good idea! :)
@benjaminhollon It is, though not everyone has the luxury if you can only do a static site.

@benjaminhollon

Hmmm, I detect Unicode shenanigans.

Looks cool, but have mercy on people's screen readers, hermano.

@RL_Dane
I tested it with espeak and it mostly worked, so I went with it. Not an ideal solution, but I couldn't think of a better one. :P

@benjaminhollon

Just tried it. Ummm... lol

I think some screen readers might say something like "Combining long stroke overlay uppercase S,Combining long stroke overlay o, Combining long stroke overlay m, Combining long stroke overlay a, Combining long stroke overlay n..."

So you gotta watch out for stuff like that.

Or hope we get .MD support in standard Mastodon sooooon? :D

@RL_Dane
Ahhhhhh frustrating. I wasn't sure of a more effective way to get the message across, though. :P

Yeah, I hope we get some basic formatting. Pretty much the only thing holding me to Mastodon rather than a different fedi platform at this point is the Fosstodon community. <3

@benjaminhollon

I mean, you could migrate to a server with more features and just import your fosstodon friends, but yeah, I get it.

Even though I'm on another instance with all the groovy Markdown features (among others) now, I still spend 99% of my time on fosstodon. :D

@RL_Dane
Ahhh but I'm super reliant on the local timeline. I *love* it. I'm only just now starting to actually follow people, because for the longest time I'd just read everything in local.

@benjaminhollon

It's been a while since I've read fosstodon local (I follow a LOT of people), but I agree that it's pretty nice!

@RL_Dane
Local is fantastic on Fosstodon. I'd say at least 10% of posts I see are ones I'm interested in engaging with, which is actually amazing when you think about it.
