PhD app season may have hit it's climax yesterday with many schools' deadlines of 12/15, but #gwu deadline is 1/15... There's still time to apply!!!
So, if you're interested in usable security and privacy, consider applying to be a part of the @gwusec lab. I'm planning to admit a new cohort of students into funded positions.
Despite earning more than half of all doctoral degrees conferred in the U.S., women are significantly underrepresented in faculty positions at colleges and universities. This is particularly true in tenure-track and tenured positions, with women making up just over a third of all full professors. Women are also less likely to receive tenure or be promoted to full professor, a situation known as the academic "leaky pipeline," where women's representation continues to decline the further they advance in their careers. In male-dominated fields, like economics, the statistics are more drastic: Women represent only 17.5% of economics professors but earn 35% of economics graduate degrees.
Anyone else get so much email that's just clutter that their unread inbox number is absurd? I have 3522 unread emails in my work email, but they are all in the "other" inbox that Microsoft uses. LinkedIn, Academia.edu, companies that want me to use their software in my classes, etc.
I actually got my unread count down to 0 in May 2021, so I guess ~6 emails/day really adds up fast.

Robert Talbert (Twitter @RobertTalbert) has been tweeting about how he has a "12-week approach" to class, where the last two weeks are a chance for review, reflection, re-doing work.
He said today that "We do what we can, and act with students in mind", which I think is a great motto -- we have to work within the constraints of our institution, discipline, etc, but as long as we are trying to be centered on student learning, we can find a way to make it work as best as possible.
