Olof Hellman - Engineering the Arts

There’s some deep comedy imagining the software engineering process as applied to art or music or writing. Would an artist publish a draft of a new painting on GitHub and open it up to pull requests from the community? Would a fiction writer begin a new project by first writing the unit tests that the new novel needs to pass? Would a musician develop a battery of A/B tests on an album and ship “remastered” versions every two weeks?

@olofhellman This has been on my watch list since it was featured, and today was the day – great talk! 🙌

over a year ago, i gave a talk at the xoxo conference about a mural, a mcdonald’s, and a man. (but it was also secretly about life, and legacy, and meaning.)

finally, i’m blogging the full story, with behind-the-scenes details, and a video of the talk.

i hope you enjoy this read. https://cabel.com/wes-cook-and-the-mcdonalds-mural/

Wes Cook and the Centralia McDonald's Mural

A personal story about discovering a mural in a McDonald's, an unknown artist named Wes Cook, trying to save the mural, and a conference talk about it all.

A follow up to this: I can't reproduce this with a sample app, but I still see this odd behavior in my app.
Years ago I did a talk at Seattle Xcoders regarding variable naming and Noun Piles. After years of procrastination, here's a cleaned up version of that "Silly Lightning Talk" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBVFqSuQtZ4
