The Russians think they just have to kill enough Ukrainians, win the war, and then their trading relations will get back to normal.
Today, my generation has a very positive view of Germans, but I remember growing up in the 1980's in Denmark, where some of my dad's business relations still would not do deals with anyone from Germany.
That was forty years after World War II and Hitler's occupation of Denmark.
Forty years — this is the kind of anger the Russians have drawn upon themselves.

If you ask a US citizen who discovered America, they will instantly respond "Columbus!" Others might argue Cabot or Vespucci. I don't know how to tell you this, but you can't say you "discovered a land" that already had people waving at you from the shore when you got there.🤡

The conversation breaks down into a pedantic discussion about the words "discovery," and "America."

You get a different answer to this question if you ask Native American people.

I just got an email from a former student of mine from 2003 who said my class was the only part of high school that didn’t suck (which made me sad she had such a rough time). And then I ran across this dedication in a book I just picked up. So I am thinking about how teaching is often a thankless job—especially lately and especially in Florida—and wanted to say to anyone who’s teaching:
1) sometimes kids thank you later
2) thanks for helping kids through the rough time they’re all having now

Today is forty years since the devastating #AshWednesday #bushfire in south-western Victoria, Australia that killed 75 people around #MtGambier, #Geelong and the Western Victorian coast.

I was in grade prep, nearly 4 years old, and it was the only time my Mum kept me home from school. I remember the red dust on our old weatherboard house - an ominous, ashy glitter.

Little were we to know that just 26 years later, in 2009, Black Saturday would make Ash Wednesday pale in comparison. Geelong hit 48 C on Black Saturday. It was too hot to breathe outside.

The towns that were affected by Ash Wednesday are now home to tens of thousands of people - Anglesea, Torquay, Jan Juc, Winch, Deans Marsh - and the #Otways are overdue for a burn.
