My next book is *The Internet Con: How to Seize the Means of Computation*: it's a #BigTech disassembly manual that explains how to disenshittify the web and bring back the old good internet. The hardcover comes from Verso on Sept 5, but the #audiobook comes from me - because Amazon refuses to sell my audio:

They did this to sex workers first and no one listened or cared. Maybe they’ll listen now if it means they can’t buy their weed seltzer with a card https://www.nytimes.com/2023/07/28/business/mastercard-debit-cannabis-transactions.html
Mastercard Moves to Stop Use of Debit Cards at Cannabis Shops

The decision places more strain on the cannabis industry, which largely operates with cash and is not uniformly regulated across the United States. The drug is still illegal on the federal level.

If you paid to access U.S. court records through PACER between April 21, 2010 and April 21, 2016, you're likely to get a check in the mail at some point for at least some of the fees you paid during that time.

A group representing veterans sued the US Govt, alleging that PACER was charging way more than what it needs to operate. The USG denies this, but they agreed to settle and proposed settlement fund is $125,000,000.

I reckon I may have a few shekels coming my way from this fund. We are big supports of The Free Law Project, which among other things makes the RECAP browser extension which automagically uploads any documents you purchase from PACER into the public domain.

I'm not here as much because I've mostly moved to Bluesky. It's not perfect but has the strongest old Twitter feel of the new apps.

I quit Threads in less than an hour. It gave me a headache.

OK, I got annoyed enough at people saying "Trump faces up to 400 years in prison" or that he wouldn't get prison even if found guilty, that I went and calculated what the sentence would actually be, assuming Trump is actually found guilty (a big if).

Anyway, if you want a dive into how U.S. sentencing actually works and what the sentence range would look like, I've got you covered:
