@dcchambers They do seem to be lagging behind, but if Threads adds fediverse features as planned, it's going to be very different from the way social networks used to compete. It'll be more like the way GMail competes, and being a fast mover might not matter as much
@roxiqt it's annoying, but this is what it's going to take for popular personalities to realize the warnings weren't unfounded, and they need to move. In a way I'm glad Elon is helping everyone understand why it's important to have platforms that billionaires don't control
14.4 was slightly before my time. I had a 56k modem. Once we got cable internet, I still had my Sega Dreamcast, which had a modem and no ethernet. From there on out I'd run dictionary attacks on the POP3 servers of small dialup ISPs so I could continue to play Unreal Tournament online.

@floledermann today is my 2nd time trying Mastodon since that last migration, and I'm kind of blown away. I was a doubter the first time around, but there is a lot going on here now. Enough that I don't really have any Twitter/Reddit FOMO
