This year, Proton made its first appearance at Infosecurity Europe.

We welcomed hundreds of visitors to our booth, which showcased our business password manager and other business solutions, and our business VPN product manager gave a talk on cyberattack patterns and how small teams can respond.

As a result of all those conversations, we came away with a clear picture of what people care about right now in IT security.

"To only see what we wish to be true is to never be at home."

Beautiful.

What does it mean to be ecological?

#ClimateDiary “Above is a fictional weather forecast for August 18, 2050, broadcast by French television in 2014, intended to warn against the disastrous consequences of global warming.

Below is the weather forecast for June 22, 2026.”

This brings out super starkly how #ClimateChange has accelerated so much more quickly than we thought even just 12 years ago.

"The study, led by researchers at the University of Cambridge, suggests that these vast AI data centers can increase local land surface temperatures by an average of 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit (2C), with some extreme cases ... up to 16.4 degrees Fahrenheit (9.1C).

This localized warming effect is estimated to affect more than 340 million people worldwide."

This time with link to the original study for reasons 🙄

Data centers are creating ‘heat islands’ on land around them – warming them by up to 16 degrees, researchers warn

Researchers found that roughly 340 million people now live within 6.2 miles of a data center

People should notice the pattern by now. Centralised platforms attract ego-centric, authoritarian-leaning audiences because the single vendor approach makes things easy. Decentralised platforms attract diverse audiences because things are not that easy and cooperation is needed for interoperability.

That's the reason for the diverse in FeDiverse ;)

The rise of larger vehicles like SUVs and pickup trucks, with their taller hoods and larger blind zones, has contributed to a 75% increase in pedestrian and cyclist deaths since 2009.

Until we design better streets and ban these vehicles, people outside these vehicles will keep dying.

The Deadly Rise of Giant Trucks and S.U.V.s

The vehicles on American roads have grown larger — and they are killing thousands more pedestrians, a Times investigation found.

A terrible, one-sided argument amplified by Politico: 2 very small comments from Greenpeace and EU Environmental Bureau to counter an otherwise long ad from the tech lobby.

Sure, let's start the debate as this lobby group is calling for. Let's start with (a) what data centres, (b) built for whom and why, (c) and if we all agree we need this, then how to get them powered in a responsible sustainable way.

Not these shrill pleas to feed a destructive race to disaster.

Europe must choose between AI and climate goals, data center lobby says

Tech sector says only carbon-emitting gas plants are reliable enough today to power the EU’s AI goals.

"The Major oak, one of Europe’s oldest, largest and most celebrated ancient trees, has died. The huge tree, which has grown in Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire, England, for at least 1,000 years, failed to produce any leaves this year, after becoming stressed by a series of hot, dry summers."
