The Youth Support Complex, although a fix for the Youth Control Complex, needs change made to properly fix systemic issues. Having the cops and teachers in areas similar to Oakland be adequately educated or held accountable for their actions is necessary for the Youth Support Complex to realistically succeed the way it is intended to. #so345

The idea of the concepts of social death and social incapacitation are interesting to me. Just seeing how people, the same as me and everyone else, is fundamentally denied their humanity. It really make me think how different of a person I would be if I was in the shoes of the boys in this book and how that would in turn affect my lifestyle and actions. #so345

These boys didn't participate in secondary deviance and are trying to do better, despite the circumstances. #so345

Low-achieving minority students are credited for creating the cultural opposition of labeling peers that do exceptional, saying that they are "acting White." This chapter referenced this, stating that this is not only a misconception, but that the boys in the experiment strived for academic excellence for themselves and those around them. It's important to realize that because of labeling, is it easy to stigmatize against those that fit the characteristics. -->

This chapter displays the interesting correlation between being guilty by association and how that affects one's individual character and lifestyle. For J.T., he had never committed a crime or been arrested and stayed away from people that were troublesome, despite 6 out of 8 of his friends being arrested before. This impacts J.T., and really shows despite being a relatively good kid, he is still lumped in with the rest of the delinquents, no matter how good of a kid he may act or be. #so345

I think that the way that the boys intentionally fight against the system is good, but the way that they are going about it is all wrong. I think that the system needs real action put into motion for their to be real change, but as they intentionally act out to show that the system isn't working how it is supposed to, it plays negatively on them. It is a lose lose situation. #so345

What I found interesting was the way that the boys actions were so directly affected by the way that others perceived them, or specifically the situation at the corner store. With the way that the system has dictated the route of their lives, I would think that they would want to stray away from any actions that would play into their stereotypes, similar to how they started out by intentionally avoiding making themselves come off as threatening or suspicious in any way. #so345
