When you look at an image like this and realise this is *all* we’ve got, we need to jail every political leader and business executive that is hell-bent on destroying this jewel, our only home, for fossil fuel profit.

To hell with them all, seriously.

This is something that probably sounds obvious to some folks and unhinged to others, but I think it’s worth saying anyway: “workers who don’t adopt AI will get left behind” is right-wing propaganda. It’s more than just a surface-level advertising message. It makes the unstated assumption that workers are all in a state of conflict, racing against one another in competition for acceptable employment. This is the literal opposite of class consciousness! All workers should be aiming for a world where we don’t have to fight each other to earn a chance at a decent life.

@piccalilli Man, I love your site so much! It's so well crafted, beautiful and useful!

It really stands out in this age in which most tutorials are low effort slop.

What's going on here? The matplotlib maintainer this story is about correctly notes that all the quotes from his post in the article are made up.

UPDATE: Link was pulled; see below.

AI agent "contributes" PR to matplotlib.
PR gets rejected.
AI agent *writes and publishes blog to shame the maintainer*.

What a time to be alive.

I think it's interesting how software engineers are (among?) the most eager working class group to replace themselves with LLMs.

It's interesting because LLMs do a worse job than us, we lose ability/skill to do our job the more we use it, lose our jobs, produce worse software, are less satisfied with our work, etc.

Yet so many of my peers seem to be super excited about and advocate for it, while other working class groups at least detest LLMs if not even consider organising themselves to protect their trade/jobs from LLMs.

Are we becoming the cops (read as: class traitors) of this techno-fascist dystopia?

“This is culture debt: the hidden cost of neglecting the systems that govern how people work together. You don’t notice it at first. Then suddenly, you can’t ignore it.”

We're moving too fast and are breaking too many things.

@corbin Just a little FYI: I've added just-the-browser to Arch AUR: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/just-the-browser-git

Thanks for the idea and project! 🙂

@cstross Put another way: LLMs have revealed a zero-day exploit in human consciousness and culture: if you can manufacture plausibility at scale, you can bypass all of the accumulated wisdom of centuries of skepticism and critical thinking. Any fact-using profession is potentially vulnerable to this attack.
