This is really cool! What I’m wondering is how this will play together with the @Mastodon and @pixelfed universe?

This is why you can’t trust Europeans with their regulations, they are just as corrupt as the Americans. And I love regulation, but the politicians that end up calling the shots are as stupid, tainted and corrupt as our trumpian overlords.

We truly are ruled by crooks.

Europe Is Sanctioning Critics of Israel and Militarism

Sanctions were once sold as a gentler foreign policy tool for exerting pressure on dictatorships and terrorist organizations. Yet measures like banning individuals from having bank accounts or traveling are increasingly used to chill free speech in Europe.

Drop into any of the French capital’s ‘third places’ and you’ll find food, culture, community – and an antidote to the disaffection extremists feed on, says Paris-based writer Alexander Hurst

Just saw this today: the US national archives have published the member lists of the NSDAP in searchable form, making it (somewhat) easy to find out if one's (great-)grandparents were Nazi party members.

As half-known, half-expected, both of my grandfathers signed up when they were 17, in 1943/44 respectively. And at least one of them never regretted that and kept spouting the same shit till the day he died, which is why antifascism starts at home.

„In kleineren Ortschaften könnte das auch heute noch fĂŒr Ärger sorgen,“

Na, schon geguckt? Die #NSDAP-Mitgliedskartei ist jetzt offen zugÀnglich.

Yup, so looks like Rutger Bregman is an advocate-turned-corporate shill:

> Years ago, Bregman gained popularity for criticizing philanthropy as as a self-serving loophole the rich use to avoid paying taxes, but today his non-profit appears to be openly enticing wealthy philanthropists with promises of tax benefits.

I don't know who's heading up Anthropic's marketing/public relations department, but whoever it is, they know the system very well.

All this conversation about the need for AI regulation is distracting from the fact that we *already* have laws both at the national and international level that are being massively violated by OpenAI, Anthropic, Microsoft, Google, Amazon and the rest of big tech. We clearly have enforcement problems that the conversation around AI governance and regulation is ignoring
