@benjojo that figures, I guessed it might be from the perspective of avoiding further centralisation. Thanks for confirming 🙂

@benjojo Great post, do love some stats.

One question, you mention: “While I believe that Hetzner and OVH is a better pick than say, Amazon/Azure/Oracle/Google”

Is there a particular reason why?

New blog post! "Where is all of the fediverse?"

The fediverse is de-centralised, but it still needs to be hosted behind something, in this post I investigate where the most of the instances are, and working around caching proxies to get a better idea of how resilient to hosting disasters the ecosystem is.

Where is all of the fediverse?

@bloor my delonghi doesn’t sound anywhere near as complex as yours but every now and again it’ll remind me it needs descaling, so usually use that as the opportunity to give it a deep clean. I’d get grumpy if it was any more needy than that!

@mensrea @neil AEDs are intended to be used by the general public with no training, they will generally tell you what to do. It might add context but it’s not a hard requirement.

Maintenance on the other hand, definitely required!

@neil @ben @Edent if those still exist I’d be interested, as the only ones I’ve seen recently require setting everything after the power is on at the mains (turning it off resets the settings). Sounds like Ben is in the same situation.
@neil the 737 max is such a ridiculously cursed aircraft

@waldoj I was happy with it until I realised it was the thing stopping call notifications on my watch. Since that’s one of the main things the watch gets used for it had to go unfortunately.

Shame, as everything else was liveable with.

Seattle Times: Boeing wants FAA to exempt MAX 7 from safety rules to get it in the air:

Over pilots’ objection, Boeing seeks safety exemption for MAX 7

Boeing asked the FAA to exempt its 737 MAX 7 from certain safety regulations. Without the exemption, an engine anti-ice system defect will keep the jet from being certified.

@andypace fair, although I would argue online ones that aren’t attached to official apparatus (e.g. the no.10 ones) are easier to ignore.
