Hi. I am a brown round tayto, known online as bleepnik. Nice to meet you.

Profile pic: A cartoon version of me, hand raised in greeting. Created by @Ceryes.

Header: Flame fractal. Holey, spacey, vaguely circular in design. Predominantly teal, but also with purples and pinks. "Made" by me (insomuch as fractals are "made" by anyone.)

Didn’t AeroPress used to be like 10 bucks or something? I could swear that’s what I paid for mine years ago. I was in a store the other day and saw it on the shelf for usd$35! 😲(I know the price of everything keeps going up; some random things still surprise me.)

Talking about what The Browser Company did wrong with Arc, they say,

“Second, I would’ve embraced AI fully, sooner and unapologetically.”*

Yeaaaaah, no. 👋🏽

*It’s on substack. I’m not sharing the link.

The Browser Company dumped their browser Arc, and they are developing a new one called Dia. @adamengst of @TidBITS joins me to talk about how they treated their fans and what he thinks of the new strategy. It’s a story of anguish and frustration and a little bit of hope.

CCATP #817 — Adam Engst on Arc Browser Demise and the Rise of Dia - Podfeet Podcasts

This week, our guest is Adam Engst, writer, editor, and publisher of the fabulous TidBITS Content Network. In late May, The Browser Company announced that they are discontinuing their ground-breaking web browser Arc. As soon as I saw the headlines, my heart sank for people like Tom from Ontario, who first introduced the NosillaCast audience […]

What if Splatoon had a mode between online games where people uninterested in competition cleaned up the arenas after a game? I feel like I’d enjoy that. Go around with a little squad with pressure washers, to get 100% back to normal for the next game. No pressure, no opponents.

I turned my face to the heavens in gratitude for the cool breeze on this scorcher of a day.

And promptly collided with a tiny flying being with no regard for personal space.

Yaaaaay thank you @MonaApp for the new beta! That was so fast. Indie app devs are just amazing. 😊

For reading notifications and especially for composing, I think I prefer Ivory to Toot!. I tend to find something I like and stick with it, and I’ve been using Mona for a while; I forgot what a polished and beautiful app Ivory is, with really nice subtle touches that make it a pleasure to use. For example, I love that when I tap the # to add a hashtag, a list of the tags I’ve used most recently slides in, and then disappears as soon as the # is no longer the focus, like if I delete it or add a space after it. The sliding animation is really nice, too: it has a little spring in its step.

This makes me want to check in with other clients I’ve used and liked, to see how they’re coming along. Like Ice Cubes and Mammoth. #metadon

Started watching a playthrough of Assassin’s Creed II a couple of nights ago and I have thoooooughts.

- There’s so much Italian in the game. Wish they’d hired voice actors who could speak it better.
- Wish I’d enjoyed playing more, cos the design is amazing.
- Cutscenes are a good length and well placed. They don’t feel like a waste of time.
- The pacing is great: the way the story progresses, mysteries unfold, skills are unlocked, layers are added to the game, everything.
- I love how optionally deep it gets, like how you can put money into restoring and improving the town.
- It’s beautiful! I mean, 2009, human models were still pretty rough, but the environments are lovely.
- Also wow we’ve come a long way in 16 years.

Side note: the person whose playthrough I’m watching is really skilled at parkour, but can’t seem to walk normally, without crashing into every pedestrian; this is hilarious to watch. Also they ignore viewpoints, which are one of my favourite things in AC games. 😂

Steamworld Dig is free right now. I started playing it a few days ago and it’s good fun. The mechanics are quite simple, which I appreciate. Looking forward to seeing how the series has evolved since this came out in 2013. https://store.steampowered.com/app/252410/SteamWorld_Dig/
