The Kyoichiro Kaga (加賀恭一郎) series by Keigo Higashino (東野圭吾).

I started Japanese to read Higashino because I was frustrated by the small amount of translations available.

The Kaga series was written over the course of 30 years and changed a lot over the years, but the 11 books are all fantastic. I have read close to 30 books by Higashino and the ones from the Kaga series are my favourite.
