I have applied for mathstodon membership

#behavioural time-scale #synaptic #plasticity was discovered by Bittner and Magee a few years ago: https://www.science.org/doi/full/10.1126/science.aan3846

It was mysterious - how could the time-window for plasticity be so large?

This new paper from the Losonczy lab suggests that it's due to intracellular calcium release from the ER:

@FrohlichMarcel have fun!
@ruipontecosta congratulations!!

European Research Council awards €636m in grants to emerging science talent across Europe

Four hundred eight researchers have won this year’s European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grants. The funding is worth in total €636 million and is part of the Horizon Europe programme.

@theosysbio I was tempted to move when I realised about the latex feature, but they stopped taking new members. I'll watch and wait for now, its an evolving space.
@beingRealFrank yes, I think watch and wait for now. But keeping in mind that we lose posts (but not followers) when/if we move to a more specialised server. Not a big deal at this point, but may become so later.
@TerryBernstein yes, that seems right
@KorayKaratay I suspect there are only a very small fraction of us. And most came in as part of the mass exodus on the weekend, when mastodon.world was one of the few accepting new members. Good to know there is one other! (And at least a few more I have seen). Bc it does turn out that it matters in terms of seeing hashtags etc.
Are there any good “Theory of life/living systems” courses out there?
What would you include? Don’t feel constrained by disciplinary traditions or conventions! Plus points for #julialang, of course.
