Welsh Valleys dweller. Interested in making technology work harmoniously with and for people.

I’m currently tinkering with #SelfHosting, #Linux, #3Dprinting and #Meshcore.

I’m also a #PatientGamer working through my #Steam backlog with occasional #retrogaming via #batocera and #knulli.

Main sporting interest include #rugby, #icehockey and #f1.

Wow. What an end to a #SixNations. Rugby is definitely the winner today. 👏👏👏

Does this mean I can keep saying “Well, it depends which French team turns up…”?

“Actual human beings were able to find each other and ask direct questions without this giant mountain of bullshit engagement piled on top of it. Meta or Oracle or whoever owns TikTok this week couldn't stop me.”

Mike Little: the British co-founder of WordPress you’ve probably never heard of (but should)…

In the story of WordPress –the tool that powers 45% of the web, including 10s of 1000s of film sites– Mike Little is Steve Wozniak to Matt Mullenweg's Steve Jobs. Matt polished the interface, the marketing and curly quotes – while Mike added the blogroll, rebuilt the code, and added the one-click easy-upgrade that's been central to its success. But unlike Woz, Mike never had shares in Matt's $7bn business – or even a job there. He didn't know you could make a living from WordPress until he turned up at the first UK WordCamp. He hasn’t been knighted or hall-of-famed, and isn’t known outside of old WordPress developer circles. Is this because he’s a cheerful and easy-going northerner from Stockport? Because he didn’t have a degree? Because he’s black? I don’t know. All I know for sure, is this is someone who anyone in tech, or who uses WordPress, should know about.

Elite Ice Hockey League: Crucial weekend ahead for Cardiff Devils

The history of all team sports is littered with stories of a particular weekend where a league campaign was won or lost, this weekend could be that for Cardiff Devils.

BBC Sport

I've been asked to do a five minute interview on BBC Radio's "Radio Breakfast" on Friday 27 Feb to talk about the current social media landscape and the new Tŵt app!!

It's interesting and reinforcing to me to hear people see "new app" and equate that with "new project" or "new social network".

People really really do see the app stores as an exclusionary source of truth, it's where "things" are, not the web, but in the app stores.

This is why we built an app. It's how people use the web.

What kind of app do you mostly use to interact with Mastodon?

Please consider boosting for a larger sample.
