Exactly what it says on the tin: a code dude in Naptown. Bringing to Mastodon more #Indianapolis content in an effort to attract same. I post what I post.

@tobyjaffey Periodic reminder, back when they were glorified secretaries AIs were all “she” with names like “Siri” and “Alexa”. They didn’t become “he” until they gained agency and authority.
@otolithe @mgoggie @cstross Come travel back in time to the USA where **MEASLES** is still around!!
@spinnyspinlock @baldur Oh I agree! I think most devs want to write good code (and most managers want to manage well) but we’re all human and everybody wants a shortcut around the methodical work that is easy to describe but hard to do consistently well. Plus there’s bandwagon effect, learned helplessness, and a million other psychological traps that drag us away from the plain “just eat your damn vegetables already” style of work.
@spinnyspinlock @baldur You could easily be describing the entire culture of capitalist management since WW2. Endless people management “strategies” that are just elaborate rain dances to avoid saying “pay good money, hire enough people to do the work, and treat them all with respect”.
Dance like nobody’s watching, shit talk like an AI-generated summary will be reported back to the subject within 24 hours.

@ScottStarkey @jellyfin Jellyfin is nothing less than a triumph. I used a decade-old Asus CN60 Chromebox and it works great for streaming all my TV show collections without juggling DVDs. All the convenience of streaming plus the autonomy of ownership.
@baldur Co-signed! I thought it was in my head! But the keys are… taller now? For no good reason? Typing this reply, the keyboard takes up over half my phone screen. On Wikipedia, the auto suggestions in the search bar are useless because the keyboard is covering them. Why??
