I prefer animals to humans; I'm vegan and it's easy because I prefer animals to food.

I believe in two things:
1. Nothing should take longer to cook than it does to eat.
2. Nothing is more beautiful than a cover drive.

The problem with protests is that they rarely carry original ideas. They are a minor disturbance to those in power and a major disturbance to commuters among the common man, but a show of numbers has historically proven to be ineffective unless it showed in the polls. My column for Sify:

Protests don't work unless the polls do

Extremists stop at nothing to prove their supremacy, particularly when they feel disempowered. The protests across the country, whose attendance appears to belie the election results, have made news globally. Amit Shah and Narendra Modi have found themselves consistently on the backfoot for the first time since they came to power. Traditionally, the supporters of kings and kingmakers tend to allow their egos to bruise even more easily than the latter and avenge themselves for perceived slights with even more brutality than the latter.

And then this 😊
Which happened...
I quite enjoyed what happened here...
The government and police action in UP is a warning to some of how the country could be run; to others of how the country ought to be run. If that does happen, India would fit right into the neighbourhood, ending 72 years of democracy and secularism. India, fitting into the neighbourhood

And for as long as the parties put their vested interests ahead of the public’s, ahead of the nation’s, we will have more in common with our neighbours than we might like to believe.

On my Instagram channel, I'll be reading #FakeNews from the country of #Ewwtopia. Tonight, we speak about the #CitizenshipAmendmentBill which seeks to disenfranchise lefthanders:

I know I should have been angry that the four men conveniently died in an encounter before “due process” was set in motion and that the police were miraculously unscathed in a scuffle that was termed “self-defence”. But my instinctive reaction was relief https://www.sify.com/news/street-justice-justice-served-or-neither-news-columns-tmlpt7fifaaie.html
Street justice, justice served, or neither?

I find myself in a bind. I know I should have been angry that the four men conveniently died in an encounter before “due process” was set in motion, and that the police were miraculously unscathed in a scuffle that was termed “self-defence”.

She was

Why didnt she call the police instead of her sister? Perhaps because she thought of how the police would react when she told them she was calling to report a puncture. Perhaps because when women are afraid, the fear is based on instinct and not logic. Perhaps because she did not want to hear, Madam, this is the police station. You should have called a mechanic.

Why #Sabarimala won't be safe for women:
I have never understood either the restrictions on entry at religious places or the temptation to fight them. The restrictions strike me as ill-informed; the fight against them strikes me as a waste of time and energy. Why would anyone want to go where they are not wanted, knowing they will be personae non grata for as long as the powers that actually decide on ground whether they are wanted or not are brute forces?

Why do women keep going to Sabarimala?

I’m often asked for my opinion on Sabarimala, and whether I think women should be allowed to go or not.
