Welcome! You are invited to join a webinar: The Reactionary Politics of Tech Bros: Anti-Wokeness and Right-Wing Populism. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the webinar.
A recent survey showed that 47% of young Norwegian men would vote for Trump. This reflects a growing polarisation between young men and women across Scandinavia.
The most visible manifestation of this right-wing resurgence is the collaboration between the ‘tech bros’ of Silicon Valley and the Republican Party and their ongoing dismantling of civil rights in the US. Through social media platforms and digital infrastructure this also has a global impact. The current reactionary backlash is infused with the anti-democratic foundations of the tech industry and its leaders.
It is particularly clear that the reactionary backlash towards so-called “wokeness” takes aim at gender equality as well as sexual, gender and racial minorities. In this conversation we will discuss how this intersecting political and technological developments influence Scandinavian discourses and debates.
The speakers include Maia Kahlke Lorentzen (Cybernauterne) and Morten Stinus Kristensen (Centre for Gender Studies, University of Stavanger) and the conversation is moderated by Maja Brandt Andreasen (Centre for Gender Studies, University of Stavanger).
Pre-registration is required.
This event marks March 8th and it is organised by the UiS Centre for Gender Studies.
