I'm reading #readwriteown right now and learning a lot about the #openweb. One thing I'm really curious about - what are some of the new protocols being developed? Even niche ones? I'm interested in exploring some of these and seeing how they work. Seeing their use cases.
The book contends that after the web and email, no new big protocols were super widely adapted.
Any suggestions?
Do you remember when Lyra leaves Pan in "The Amber Spyglass", in order to continue her journey, and is in physical anguish from being separated from him for the first time?
That's exactly how I feel leaving my child every day when I go to work. I spend every possible minute of my free time with him, but it's still no where close to being enough. Wondering if it'll ever get better. Trying to be mindful and making every moment I can with him count.
I miss the old internet. I miss its sense of discovery and community. I miss the days where everything felt personalized, and people were creating and contributing because of passion.
I miss finding random message boards, or reading a small website's guestbook.
I've been trying to find that feeling of newness, discovery, and "underground" culture again.
I wonder if that feeling is something that can only experienced when you're young - or, if it's still out there. #nostalgia #openweb #90s
