Re: the last video, I've had that argument so many times with folks who feel that the suffering of others shouldn't be addressed because they believe their own experiences are being overlooked, and that's 'unfair.'
But if you're treating #empathy as a transactional item -- if you're withholding it until you feel that you've received enough of it *first* -- that isn't empathy at all, but a veiled treatment of the other side as an enemy that you're bargaining with instead of reaching out to.

Working on reading 'The Ones We Burn' by Rebecca Mix, which I became curious about after seeing the antagonism around it; more details on Goodreads, but it's an example of accusations getting picked up and echoed by people who haven't read the actual source material -- which is a discussion point unto itself.
