Queer IT professional, longtime gamer, makes frequent critical remarks on story narratives. (he/him)
Fantastic article about the assumption that cultural norms and expression are not only universal, but that one culture can be applied to all -- and how arrogant that can become with AI image generation: https://medium.com/@socialcreature/ai-and-the-american-smile-76d23a0fbfaf

Yeah, Twitter appears to be completely hosed. Wonderful. Well, arcade spirits is on sale? On Steam? That's a good thing? Hopefully making up for everything else that's been going wrong today? Tell your friends?
I didn't realize that #PS4 controllers are now natively supported by #Steam without requiring additional drivers or interfaces; plugged my spare one in this evening and it worked flawlessly without any complicated setup. Nice.
The sheer cognitive dissonance of folks complaining that the possibility of #Netflix's #Wednesday being queer is 'sexualizing a teenager', while simultaneously ignoring the entire 'is she dating Boy A or Boy B' subplot that drives nearly the entirety of Season 1.
Truly fascinating examination about #animal perception that also includes differences in how animals process time (cw: for a section with light sensitivity/epilepsy, warned in advance in the video): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gvg242U2YfQ

Re: the last video, I've had that argument so many times with folks who feel that the suffering of others shouldn't be addressed because they believe their own experiences are being overlooked, and that's 'unfair.'

But if you're treating #empathy as a transactional item -- if you're withholding it until you feel that you've received enough of it *first* -- that isn't empathy at all, but a veiled treatment of the other side as an enemy that you're bargaining with instead of reaching out to.

Excellent short video from Trae #Crowder about not only how social issues may unconsciously equate to sports for some folks (ie, 'my team should win, and in order to do that, another team *has* to lose') but also the lack of empathy on the political Right, and the refusal to develop it: https://twitter.com/traecrowder/status/1603139922256310272

Working on reading 'The Ones We Burn' by Rebecca Mix, which I became curious about after seeing the antagonism around it; more details on Goodreads, but it's an example of accusations getting picked up and echoed by people who haven't read the actual source material -- which is a discussion point unto itself.
