Too old, programmer and do other tech stuff - lots of infrastructure etc. Interested in most things.
@ChinnyVision you might be confusing woke with Pony.

@lauren I know you could unverify yourself by blocking @verified so you’d think that it wouldn’t be that difficult to just zap everybody. Who knows with hard core Twitter though.

I’m extremely impressed at Elons efforts to make more than 50% revenue through subscriptions being more successful than anyone could expect although doing it by crushing the ad revenue seems a bit dumb.

@ChinnyVision don’t do it if you don’t know what Woke means because it has nothing to do with Leftist. Somehow Americans have got the idea Stalin was woke. I can’t think of any woke games from the 80s. Maybe Ant Attack as you could choose your gender but I’m not totally convinced the ants deserved to be grenaded.

@cstross it’s just picking a common word that often follows the word before. It has basic rules on sentence structures but that’s about it. It has no actual facts, just word associations but so many word associations people are blinded by it. Ask it how to finish in 3 darts for any number and you will discover it can’t - the concept of getting to zero is there because presumably a lot of associations but not that 60 + 57 + 50 = 167.

This is not the AI we were promised in the 80s and 90s, it’s less than a knowledge base and is basically 100% waffle.

It passes the Turing test but only if you are limiting a conversation to stuff you know nothing about, then it’s all plausible word soup.

@cstross bosses are stupid, women are irritable, Indians are hard working but incredibly naive and foreigners are inferior humans. I think the only black character he had was sometimes black and sometimes white and killed off periodically.

If you ever looked at the comment sections under his comics on his website they’ve been nothing but white supremacists right wing asshats for a long time.

@nixCraft as an old bastard vim doesn’t mean anything to me. The only thing I do in vim that I wouldn’t have done in vi is turn the syntax highlighting off on apache config files. I don’t think I’ve ever typed vim to launch it. But yes, Ctrl-z, kill -9 was sometimes necessary in Vi when a vt100 terminal got confused or I hit the wrong key and turn off echo in the terminal.
@cstross @lauren it’s all right, he won’t pay him. He will give him exposure at best.
@cstross you have to credit him getting 30 years out of about 4 jokes.
@textfiles I remember reading the Bible Code. I learnt quite a lot from it but I don’t think I learnt what the authors wanted. Thanks to that book and subsequent research I would classify anyone that makes insinuations like this “full of shit”. As if God would stick to base 10.
@Smooheed that works both ways.
